Lunch Delivery for Children
How it Started
Over 20 years ago Elder Bill Clarke heard that about half of the children in our local school, Barrow Elementary, were on free and reduced lunches. He decided that we needed to do something to help provide lunches for local children in Brazoria. So we began Feed My Lambs, an ecumenical charity dedicated to delivering lunches to children. With the help of other churches and civic organizations in Brazoria we started working together, not knowing if we could make it past the first month, but with God’s help, we are still continuing this mission. Over the years, we have varied the number of routes that we have and the number of delivery days depending on our volunteers. We have been funded by donations and grants from our Presbytery and other charities.
How it’s going
In 2026 we delivered 2396 lunches, a big increase over last year when we only delivered about 1500. The increase was due to adding a fourth route. We had participation from 25 adult volunteers and 6 youth and children. Fifteen of the volunteers were from our church, with the rest coming from other churches and the community. We prepare and deliver sack lunches on Mondays and Thursdays in June and July.
How You can Get Involved
We have jobs for every skill level, and volunteers are welcome. Preparation begins about 10 am at our church with one crew making either sandwiches or hot dogs, another crew filling sacks with the other food items such as, chips, breakfast bars, granola bars, fruit cups, pudding cups, cookies, or fruit snacks, depending on the day’s menu. We also include a religious coloring or activity sheet each day, so others fold napkins and activity sheets. Around 11, the delivery drivers load up and begin making deliveries. We are usually done around noon. Behind the Scenes
We deliver sack lunches to hungry children in Brazoria on Mondays and Thursdays in June and July. In 2026 we provided 2396 lunches with the help of 24 adult and 6 youth volunteers and donations from individuals and civic organizations in our community.
